The unexpected fault occurred soon after the CAT examination began in 32 cities, but organisers said it affected only a small number of the 12,000-odd aspirants who appeared on the first day of the staggered exam.

The CAT determines admissions into the country’s prestigious Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other B-schools.

The organisers termed the failure as “teething problems” since the test switched over this year to a computer-based system from the earlier optical reader marking paper-based tests.

Convener of the CAT committee of the IIMs, Satish Deodhar, said the main reason for the problem was “incompatibility of some softwares at centres with servers”.

1. Avoid Junk Foods- The best way to reduce weight is to avoid junk food. No matter how good they are in taste, eating junk foods will never help one since they contain so much fat and calories that will one’s stomach to bulge out. So in this matter believe in the proverb that slow and steady wins the race. Just set small yet simple targets of workouts so that one will not get from himself for not achieving large targets.

3. Avoid Eating Fried Foods-Fried foods are good in taste but they are not healthy for a body because they contain excess oils and fats which is not necessary for body. Body absorbs that extra fat and it results in bulky stomach hanging out. Instead of eating fried food one can just eat boiled and grilled food. It will help one preventing oneself from consuming extra fat as well.

4. Do not Skip Breakfast-Generally growing kids and teenagers skip their breakfasts in the morning but it is advised that they should not skip breakfast. They should take heavy breakfast and afterwards they can take light lunch. Eating heavy breakfasts will help one’s metabolism to start working in a proper manner. In fact, if one eats breakfast, it is sure that he or she will take a snack later on.

5. Drink Plenty of Water- It is a well known fact that juices and soft drinks contains a lot of calories. Consequently, the best thing that one can do is to just drink plenty of water. Furthermore, water will work as filler hence one can restrict oneself from craving for foods. After all, they won’t tell one to drink more than 8 glasses of water per day for nothing.

“India has gained status, but has not yet emerged as a capable nation. The world listens to power, and now we need to gain the capability,” Bhagwat said.

Commenting on China, Bhagwat said China with countries envious of India is encircling its borders. “China has also support of our other neighbouring countries and its forces are encircling the periphery of India, while Bangladesh has roots of terrorism in its ground, so becoming domineering power is a must for India and the task can be completed only by Hinduism,” he said.

However, the death count in both the states is likely to go up as many flood-hit areas were still to be accessed in Andhra Pradesh and between 11 and 21 persons were feared buried under mounds following landslide in a hillock at Kadawada village in Uttara Kannada where two bodies have been recovered, officials said.

In Karnataka, fifteen districts have been impacted in varying degrees by the monsoon fury, he said, adding, the unprecedented rain in northern Karnataka has damaged 1,03,291 houses.

Rescue operations were on in full swing in Kadawada village in Uttara Kannada district where a major landslide buried eight houses. According to eyewitnesses, around 11-21 people were feared trapped.

Rains had abated to some extent except in coastal parts and Bellary district, he said.

The Indian Air Force evacuated 12 persons caught in neck-deep water in Bellary district while 32 marooned people were rescued from the temple town of Mantralaya in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district bordering Raichur in Karnataka.

Forty people were rescued and the condition of six of them was stated to be critical, district officials said. The tourists on “Jalakanyaka” boat of the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation were on a trip to have glimpses of wildlife in forests bordering either side of the lake, located in Thekkady, home to India’s largest wildlife sanctuary Periyar. Besides state forces, a team of 40-50 navy divers have been rushed to the spot from the Southern Naval Command at Kochi, 150 km from Tekkady lake, naval sources said. The injured had been rushed to nearby hospitals, officials said.

This is one of the major boat tragedies in the state after the capsize of a boat carrying school children at Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary in Ernakulam district a few years back which claimed 22 lives, most of them primary students. Official sources said the possibility of foreign tourists being among the victims could not be ruled out. Top police officials said several boats with rescue guards and generators for providing light had been sent to the spot where the boat sank, they said.

Expressing shock over the tragedy, Defence Minister A K Antony said from New Delhi that navy and other forces had been instructed to render all possible help in the rescue work. Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan ordered an enquiry into the boat tragedy. The Chief Minister told reporters that the revenue department had set up a control room here, as most passengers in the boat were from outside Kerala.

“The chief minister has asked the district magistrate of Khagaria to get the incident probed by a magistrate to ascertain the reasons behind the mishap,” a government spokesman said. The state government has allotted Rs 1.50 lakh as compensation for families of each of the deceased, he said. According to officials, Navy helicopters had already reached the spot to carry out further rescue operations. The control room number is 0471-2333198.
